Gardens Update for 4/24/15

What we did on Wed.
Steve led a team of Erin, Amber, and Della and dug the creeping burmuda grass out of another circle plot. Geri gave tender care to the asparagus patch and the greenhouse. Deb turned the compost pile and then she and Patricia weeded the onions and set up a fence for the baby peas in the shed plot. Linda weeded the shallots. We watered again with the little pump. The junior gardeners watered, hauled away the Bermuda grass, and ate popcorn and apples. I replaced ID signs and cleaned up the shed plot. It was a great day of work and fun.
Watering in the greenhouse
What we can do Sat. (If it isn’t too rainy or cold!)
I have a raised bed that we can set up in the center. It is 4’x 8’x12″ and I think it is in fairly good condition. There are two more plots to recover. Dig out the grass and turn. Ron and Steve will be setting up the big irrigation pump so we all will get some lessons in how to be a fireman with the big 2″ hose. I am sorry Ingrid won’t be there to demonstrate her watering technique. The greenhouse will need to be checked. The plot west of the greenhouse should be weeded.
Yard Sale
We are still planning to set up a yard sale this next weekend. If you have items to contribute to this money making project please bring them to the garden Friday afternoon, 2 to 4. I will be in Jan and George’s yard with a pickup and trailer where we can store our things overnight. Let’s start at 7:30 AM on Saturday morning. It looks like it will be good weather for that weekend. I realize this is a lot of extra work but maybe with what we make on the yard sale and the sale of the hoes will won’t need to do any other fund raisers.
The following are jobs members can volunteer for…….

– be at the garden on Friday afternoon to help receive goods. 2-4. 2 people
– set out signs, I person, Sat. Morning
– show up at Jan and George’s yard at 7 AM Sat to set up tables. 2 people
– come by to sell or wave down passing cars (kidding)
– stash goods back in the trailer, unless we sell everything, in which case we all go home and
try to find something else to do on Sunday.

Please tell neighbor’s and friends about our yard sale if they want to get rid of some things or if they want to look for bargains to buy. I will be selling some Pampered Chef items and costume jewelry, some from Chicos. My husband is in the market for a lounge chair for Lily our dog.
